CLASSIC RENAULT FUEGO

Hi folks,

I have finally decided to join your forum as well. Presently a member of several other Australian forums relating to Renaults. We need to support them all and spread the love around.

I have a Fuego that I acquired last year with a dead engine after it ran out of coolant. I have rebuilt the engine using a combination of bits from the original engine and a donor R20 engine I hade lying around. I have used the R20 pistons as they are slightly domed giving a high compression ratio. Anyway, the engine is complete and ready to go back into the car but when I was cleaning and preparing under the bonnet in preparation I noticed the drain area under the heater/fan is rusty due to the sound deadening stuff cracking and letting water in.

I attempted to remove the heater assembly to get at the area but after removing the three bolts on the engine side there evidently is two more studs with nuts on the inside of the car. The one on the right hand side is visable (not easy to get at, they never are) but the other one is a mystery. As far as I can tell it is burried inside the airconditioning unit air duct. So I am presuming a major disassembly of the dash is now in order. I downed tools when that became the apparent solution to regain composure and have a beer. Maybe this weekend I will have another look at the problem. In the meantime, my ever faithful old R12 will have to stay out of retirement. Rolling Eyes

Welcome to the forum- an English language Fuego forum should be able to grow as the cars are definitely making a comeback.

Thanks Westair. I had tried a search on Aussiefrogs but didn't find anything at the time. I have just tried again including Kenfuego in the search and found the thread. Unfortunately, the thread confirmed my observations that the missing nut is in the air conditioning unit duct. Sad

I got a new car stereo for father's day so I need to disassemble a portion of the centre consol anyway so looks like I will be going a little further than planned. Just hope this car lives up to my expectations after the amount of work I will have put into it. Smile

Hi Nord,

I hope by now you have located the last screw inside the car (passenger side). Indeed I had this issue last week to fix. Found it by removing the radio and pulling off the front duct. After a bit of panel repair as mine has some rust too, I will be putting it back together.
I have a fuego/R18 manual but that doesn't tell you where to find it!!

Yes I did get the nut off, just a few weeks ago. Been a little busy and the Fuego unfortunately is low on my list of priorities (and those of SWMBO) Wink

. I looked at trying to just pry the ducting out of the way but decided against it and removed the whole dash. I will make another post Westair in a better location then 'New Members' when I get a chance and include some pictures. Smile
