Fuego Shock absorbers

How do you go in Argentina and Europe for front shock absorbers?

-----------------------------------
Fuego Turbo

Hello Westair,

In the Netherlands you can buy the shock absorbers at any place.
But mounting them is the biggest problem. You need a special Renault tool to change the shock absorbers. I own this equipment. And somewhere i have a reference number of this Renault tool. If you want i can scan an orignal document about that.

Kind greetings

That would be great-.
No one seems to stock front shocks anymore- do you have idea on price?
Euros will do.

While we can get most parts in Australia things like power steering seals seem almost impossible and some have been unsuccessfully modifying some Ford products.

Perhaps I should have a section for parts from Europe or Argentina

In argentina you can buy shock absorbers at any car suspention shop, the price for two a pair are about USD 60, and if you want to change by yourself you will need a spring press, is not difficult but require very much patience.

Spring Press

I heard some guys in the Fuego Club that use Renault 18 shock absorbers, but I dont know if are there Ranault 18 in Australia

I have an extra pair of front shock absorbers because 6 month ago I buy 4 custom shock absorbers. It's a shame you are so far from argentina  Confused

Yes freight by sea mail from here to Argentina is around $AD80 up to 20kg
Airmail is around $AUD180.

You know that normal spring compressors WILL NOT work successfully.
FuegoTurbo is absolutely correct, and normal after market type compressors are just too big and clumsy.
We have tried them unsuccessfully, but were able to borrow some factory ones from the RCCQ. Still difficult to use, but very good and not dangerous Cool

32.79 for fronts and 25.79 for rears (USD)   from rockauto.com.   I used same brand/model on my 92 GTi, they were quite good.   Though I'm lucky enough to have a set of NOS Koni adjustables that came with my car, going to put them in when I replace the ball joints and inner tie rods (I *may* have tracked down some here)

I use a trolly jack to change the springs.
Undo the bottom ball joint, remove the driveshaft from the hum. remove the shock to top arm bolt and the top arm to inner wing bolts. then with the bottom wishbone and driveshaft pushed to one side, you can jack under the shock, remove the top nut, and carfully lower the shock and the spring.
You need to have a good quality progressive troly jack for this though.

Wonder what method my mechanic is going to use to get them out...  He's putting in my ball joints and konis today.    Should have done it last saturday, than i could have watched.   Sounds like it could get interesting.

Carravelle in Melbourne should have genuine fuego shocks in stock  Wink   they aren't as firm as the originally fitted shocks (which I believe were spec'd up for the aussie market)

also dad has a set of spring compressors if you are ever over east  Wink

when I start earning some money, I'm thinking of giving Bilsteen shocks a try as I've heard good reports & a rumour that they can re-gas/adjust to fit  Wink ) mainly because I need a firmer ride to complement the paces I put the car through  Very Happy

cheers
