I like F1...some stuff from our visit to SepangFormula 1 is still the greatest for me.
This decade has seen Renault's efforts progress from behind the scenes with Benneton, to full on assault at the title as the Renault marque.
Renault succeeded in winning the Championships in 2005 (the last of the V10 formula) and 2006 (the first year of the V8 formula).
What a great achievement and we can all be proud of this as Renault-philes.
After all, how many of the innumerable Ferrari lovers can say they actually own a Ferrari ????

My first real interest in F1 apart from the marvellous Fangio was articles by a great French driver Paul Frere who only died recently.

My wife and I go to V8 Supercar meetings here and there - that's her passion.
But I guess the F1 cars have always been the interest especially stories about the 'modern' F1 since 1950. Reading Fangio's biography was amazing. That man was brilliant and so cunning as a strategist. That was an era when there was no feedback from the driver or car to the pits apart from the obvious, so he largely decided on strategy himself.

Ahhh almost forgot to mention Paul Frere.
A gifted driver who wisely retired (given the dreadful casualties suffered in racing before the likes of Jackie Stewart etc stood up for the safety aspect of the sport) and went onto a career as motoring journalist and writer.

Fangio was an excelent race driver and most excelent men, he was friend of my grand father, he used to race in the same category here in argentina till he had a big crash and diceded stop racing, but his passion was allways races, maybe not driving but going with Fangio and following across Europe at each grand prix he run.

I still think Fangio was the greatest because of the variety of cars he drove and he could keep a car going under extreme difficulties.
I loved watching the oil company movies of the GPs and sports car races and later to see Fangio driving his old racecars, especially the MBs, at modern meetings was incredible. To actually see him 4 wheel drift a 40 year old car at high speed at circuits like Donington and the Australian Grand Prix was fantastic.
